Why are you here?

This particular subject has both fascinated and nauseated people throughout history. We are horrified by war and yet history is oftentimes a story of warfare. We are repulsed by the horrors of war, but yet we cannot help ourselves and want to know more about it. We will study conflict and take an in-depth look at genocide. However, we will also consider ways to forge lasting peace in the world. For now, tell us why you want to take this class. What is your interest and your goal for this class? Please post a response by Friday, January 25.

  3. The main reason I am taking warmongers is for the social studies credit. Honestly I do not wish to learn about war and genocide but I plan to do my best and try to enjoy it.

  4. I am interested in taking Warmongers and Peacemakers not only because of Mr. Yip but because I feel that the topics we will cover will generate deep discussions and debates about past, current, and future issues that have and will affect us not only individually but as a people. Furthermore, it should be interesting to learn about the topics of war and peace which are different yet similar. All and all my goal for this semester is to gather a better understanding on the topics of genocide, war, and peace. In addition, I also would like to see other peoples perspectives on these trending topics.

  5. I am taking warmongers and peacemakers because I enjoy learning about history. This class can help me understand why leaders do what they do which impacts all of history. It is interesting to not just look at historical events but to look at the people behind them. It’s a whole way to look at the world. Also while genocide and war are rather unpleasant topics to talk about they are still important to talk about in the hopes of someday stopping them from happening.

  6. I am interested in this class because the aspects of war interest me. I also heard from lots of people that it’s a really good class, that it’s interesting, and that it taught them a lot about important issues. So I thought I would check it out. I am looking forward to seeing how everyone reacts to all the different topics and I think I am excited to have discussions on these issues. My goal is to get involved in issues that I really don’t know much about as of now.

  7. I am taking this class because I am really interested in what war actually is. What causes it, who controls it, and what it is really about. It is important to learn about the past to prevent the same problems from happening in the future. I hope to learn about the type of people who know how to control people and keep great power. Also, I would like to learn about the problems in the world that I do not know about because I feel that there is a lot I am oblivious to in the world.

The topics we are going to cover in this class intrigue me, and I am very curious to learn about the mindsets behinds leaders during wars. Also, I think the history and thinking behind the numerous genocides in our world will create good discussions I look forward to participating in.

  10. I am taking this class because history is one of my favorite subjects in school. However not a lot of class time is spent talking about war and what causes it. This is what i hope this class can teach me about.

    1. I am working on a Day of Remembrance in April. I do not know if it will offer more insight, but at the least, it keeps the memory of those who suffered alive. It is mind-boggling that events like genocide have happened and continue to happen. I am not sure we can ever truly understand how it happens, but we can certainly recognize when it is happening and do our very best to prevent it.

  12. I am here to learn about war strategies, such as the iron curtain, and particular battles during wars. I only kid Mr. Yip. Why else would I be here besides to have Yip the Great bequeath to me his infinite knowledge about war, genocide and peace? I am looking for a deeper understanding into the many aspects of war, and if we could in any way possibly end it. If we can some how come together as one human community and say, "We must no longer continue the ways of our past." Now in the twenty-first century, we must look back at our own long history and learn lessons from our past. We must come together and analyze the ramifications of such an atrocity. As a human race,we must try to achieve peace through education and take responsibility for our actions. We absolutely can not achieve peace through more war. I also like to prove people wrong in class debates. <3 u Yip

  13. The reason I'm taking warmongers and peacemakers this year is because history has always been one of my favorite subjects and it seemed like an interesting class. I've heard from many people that warmogers and peacemakers was a good class and I've been trying to take it since my freshman year.

  14. I’ve wanted to take this class since my Sophomore year, however due to scheduling conflicts I was not able to do so until now! I'm very excited to be enrolled in this class and to spend the last semester of my senior year with The YipMaster! Mr. Yip is a simply a great teacher and I have heard phenomenal things about this class from my peers. Personally, I am most interested in learning about the final aspect that we are going to discuss in this course- peace. I am an overly optimistic individual. I believe that in the (distant) future, mankind will be able to achieve world peace and unity. In order to reach this, we need to revisit history and learn from the past. Mankind will be doomed if we continue to attempt to achieve peace through warfare. Additionally, I’m quite interested in learning about genocides, for I currently know very little about them. I look forward to the lessons and discussions that will take place throughout the semester.

  15. I am taking this class because I have heard great things about this class. Also, like many others, I have always found genocide repulsing and am interested in learning about the past and how to utilize it to create a better future.

  16. Honestly, I’m here for you Mr.Yip. Out of all my teachers from last year and just about every other year you have easily been the most interesting I’ve had the chance to be taught by. You manage to make history which always seems to be comprised of memorization year after year interesting by questioning us to actually think in class and come to our own conclusions often stirring up arguments with us by playing as the devil’s advocate. Yet another reason I couldn’t help but take this class is that not only did I enjoy you as a history but just about every last one of my friends that had you as a teacher or took this class said they enjoyed it the entire time and wished they could take it again.

P.S. - I know that last year I fell asleep in your class from time to time but that had nothing to do with you I was honestly just very tired and worn out so by the end of the day I just really needed a nap. I will make sure to try my hardest not to fall asleep in your class again even if I really need a nap, I’ll just take it in another class.

  17. There are a few reasons why I am taking this class. One reason is being I enjoy Mr. Yip as a teacher, and I find his class to be very fun, and educational. Also, the entire subject as a whole interests me, and it is a class I've wanted to take since I found out about it. Also, alot of friends are taking the class, so that makes it even better.

  18. I am taking this class because it is a fairly new class with an interesting subject. Aside from the subject I heard that it was a good elective to take. I am very anxious for the end of the semester to discuss peacemakers, more specifically the one and only John Lennon. However on the other side I am equally as interested in the war mongers due to the fact that I know nothing about them. I am hoping to get a better understanding of war mongers and the philosophy of war. I also want to watch movies.

  19. I wanted to take this class for a few reasons. One, Mr.Yip is the best teacher out there, his teachings entertain me and I learn alot in his classes. Two, Im interested in war and stuff because I think it is more interesting then all of the other subjects so it gives me a fun class to go to. Those are the reasons why I took this class

  20. I was enrolled into this class due to a problem with a social studies credit last year. War does not interest me at all. However I think genocide is disgusting and wrong and wouldn't mind learning why people can do such cruel actions to people.

  21. One reason is being I enjoy Mr. Yip as a advisory and he knows what he's talking about but will admit it if he doesn't. I am taking this class because I have heard nothing but positive reviews. I also feel that this is an important class that covers topics that aren't really taught elsewhere.
